Former US Congresswoman released by Israeli government

Reuters is reporting that Former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney (D-Ga.) has been allowed to return to the US just days after Israel detained her and other activists aboard a ship carrying relief supplies to Gaza.  Israeli authorities intercepted the ship saying it would not be permitted to enter Gaza’s coastal waters because of an existing naval blockage and security risks in the area.

Information about McKinney and the other 20 activists on board, including American John Judge, a congressional staffer, has been fed to Reuters through the Palos Hills-based American Muslims for Palestine.  At this time McKinney is the only detainee to be released.
